FRANKFORT, KY – The following information is intended for clarification regarding the Carry Conceal Deadly Weapons (CCDW) program.

The Kentucky State Police conducts six background checks on all CCDW license applicants before licenses are issued.

The joint federal and state investigation, which yesterday resulted in indictments of six individuals, focused on instructors failing to provide mandatory firearms training and then providing applicants with training certificates. These certificates allowed those individuals to apply for a CCDW license through state police. Background checks were performed on all CCDW license applicants.
