GRAND OPENING FOR CORRECTIONAL INDUSTRIES

DOC saves taxpayers over $1 million on project

Frankfort, KY -- On Wednesday, November 29, 2000, Kentucky Correctional Industries (KCI), a division within the Department of Corrections (DOC), will open their doors to their newly renovated building at 1041 Leestown Road (US Hwy 421) in Frankfort. The Grand Opening begins at 10:00 a.m. and will include a tour of the entire facility.

KCI transformed the 66,000-sq. ft. abandoned, gutted, former Lowe’s building in disrepair into an attractive, professional and highly functional office, showroom and warehouse complex. This complex will be a showcase for all Correctional Industries products and services. A scale model prison cell (as seen at the Kentucky State Reformatory) will be one of the featured showroom displays.

A tour of the building will immediately follow the ceremonial ribbon-cutting conducted by Justice Secretary Robert F. Stephens, Commissioner Sapp, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Gary Dennis and KCI Director Tom Grissom.
