Calloway Co Middle School
Water Watch / River to River Project

Terri Hjetland, Teacher

During the 1996-97 school year, special education students in Ms Hjetland's class participated in the River-to-River program. They collected data on culture, infrastructure, geography and environment. The students made maps of Calloway County and Kentucky. The daily weather data and bimonthly water quality data was collated into monthly spreadsheets. Autibiographies, personal timelines and favorite recipes were also shared with their Russian partners in Ust-Donestk and Rostov-on-Don. All their data was published in a book which will be taken to Russia in June 1996. Here are a few student comments.

"I had a lot of fun doing the River-to-River project." Clifton Garner

"We learned about the Russians and they learned about us. It sure is
   different over there." John Hopkins

"We did a whole lot of work. My mom liked the book I brought home at the
  end of school." Marlin Williams

"I liked getting the pen-pal letters." Sarah Miller
