Training Questions Archives

1.) Q How do I get access to Computer Based Training?
A Contact your Agency Training Team Lead. Those names are listed in the MARS Training Catalog at http://www.state.ky.us/agencies/adm/mars/mars.htm or in the listing of Agency Implementation contacts at http://www.state.ky.us/agencies/adm/mars/org-presentation.html.
2.) Q Don't MARS Users need to be trained again in workarounds, if temporary fixes aren't replaced with standard procedures soon?
A The MARS Training team has completed a review of the ADVANTAGE and Procurement Desktop training manuals with MARS team members who have been working with individual agencies or with the Customer Resource Center to make sure that they have identified any changes in the training manuals due to either software enhancements or procedural changes. These notes have been distributed to the trainers and they will be able to incorporate these in the training classes beginning August 16, 1999. We will continually monitor this and strive to make the training reflect current software functionality and implementation policies. Any workarounds that were already being trained prior to July 1, 1999 and are still in place will continue to be included in the training.
3.) Q Why does the MARS Training Team need a mid-August deadline for October workshops?
A The August 11, 1999 deadline is for registrations for classes to be held August 30 through October 1. September 15 is the deadline for registrations for classes to be held October 4 through 29. These deadlines were identified in conjunction with a group of Training Team Leads from various agencies to meet several agency needs. These needs included:
  • The ability to provide at least two weeks notification to Agency Implementation Leads, Training Team Leads, and individual employees regarding registrations for classes.
  • The ability for the TTL's to have at least one week to work with the employees in their agencies to confirm attendance in classes. This gives everyone a better opportunity to make sure that the space in individual classes is utilized to the maximum.
  • The ability to provide fair access to training classes across agencies. If registration was done on a solely first come-first serve basis, this would potentially mean that training would not be distributed across agencies in an effective manner.
Even though the deadline is August 11 for the August 30 through October 1 classes, employees can still be registered where there are openings. TTL's can have access directly into Registrar to view where the employees in their agency are registered, if there are openings in other classes, add employees to wait lists for other classes, and confirm employees registration. TTL's can also work with their Training Team Coordinator to assist with any of these functions.
