June Buchanan School Monitors Caney Creek

The June Buchanan School is located on the Alice Lloyd College campus in Pippa Passes, Kentucky. This Knott County community is located on Caney Creek which flows down through campus.

It is a short walk for the JBS Environmental Science class to observe this section of the Big Sandy River watershed. The class consists of six students who have been doing chemical testing and macroinvertebrate studies of the creek since August of this year. Other studies involve surveys of the surrounding hillsides in tree populations, soil studies and long term ecoplot observations.

The class includes Eric Bailey, Mark Cook, Kelly Combs, Heather Fugate, Travis Stepp and Donour Sizemore. Their instructor is David Huff.

The class is offered as a semester course, so, as of January 1997 the water watch tests will be taken over by the sophomore biology class. You can contact the June Buchanan School at E-mail address jbs2@eastky.com
