Workshop Exercises

The following activities are designed to introduce participants in volunteer water quality monitoring to the resources available on the World Wide Web.

Key Activities

  1. Water On The Web(basic)
    A breif introduction to Netscape, then off to a number of Web sites related to volunteer monitoring and water resources
    (30 min)
  2. Internet Treasure Hunt(basic)
    After participants learn basic navigation, they will be challanged to find a specific tidbit of obscure information that is available on the internet. the teams that find it the fastest or with the fewest number of "hops" will win a prize.
    (15 min)
  3. Publishing Your Data on the Web (Advanced)
    "Gee. . . This is easy!" Using the World Wide Web to publish your results. Includes graphics files, editing HTML (Hyper-Text Mark Up Language) and linking files to the web. (30 min. Exercise) Limit 15 people at a time)
  4. National Data Communications Project
    Volunteer monitoring teams can share their results via a number of international and national exchange programs taking place on the Web, We have selected a few sites for you to check out. (for those not doing publishing)
